FDR on Public Sector Unions

DiSalvo talks about FDR's opinions on Government Employee Unions.

Even President Franklin Roosevelt, a friend of private-sector unionism, drew a line when it came to government workers: "Meticulous attention," the president insisted in 1937, "should be paid to the special relations and obligations of public servants to the public itself and to the Government....The process of collective bargaining, as usually understood, cannot be transplanted into the public service." The reason? F.D.R. believed that "[a] strike of public employees manifests nothing less than an intent on their part to obstruct the operations of government until their demands are satisfied. Such action looking toward the paralysis of government by those who have sworn to support it is unthinkable and intolerable."

Political Observation of the day.

I'm not sure that Sara Palin is the perfect candidate, I Like her but she has her flaws. However, I'd be willing to vote for her just because it would piss off all the right people.

It's always a bad sign...

when state legislators are so scared of voting on a bill they all jump in a charter bus and run away out of state.

MADISON - The State Senate has convened in Wisconsin to discuss, debate and possibly vote on Governor Scott Walker's controversial budget bill, but not all the Senate members are there; all Democrats in the Senate are absent.

Law enforcement officials are looking for at least one Democratic senator to bring in for a quorum required for a fiscal measure, but Democratic Senator Jon Erpenbach confirmed to Newsradio 620 WTMJ that he and all of his Democratic colleagues boarded a bus and left the state.

Worst Possible Logic award goes to....

It's one thing to be opposed to Wal-mart. because of it's economic effect on the community. However, some politicians have come up with a much more idiotic reason to oppose it.

Brenda Speaks, a Ward 4 ANC commissioner, actually urged blocking construction of the planned store in her ward at Georgia and Missouri avenues NW partly because of that risk. Addressing a small, anti-Wal-Mart rally at City Hall on Monday, Speaks said young people would get criminal records when they couldn't resist the temptation to steal.

Really? That's the argument? You can't build your store here, because my constituents are incapable of not being thieves?

Sure Chris Lee is an Idiot...

Chris Lee, the Congressman that got caught cheating on his wife via Craigslist is an idiot.

However, why is that an unforgivable offense, when spending Billions of Dollars that the government does not have is considered perfectly acceptable behavior?
